For Young and Adult Pets, testing will give baseline results that your veterinarian can use later for faster, more accurate diagnosis and treatment.
For Senior Animals, testing will help to monitor organ degeneration, check response to medication and detect diseases before symptoms appear.
Before Surgery or Dental Procedures tests results provide important information that makes anesthesia safer.

Senior Wellness Exam
Is your pet 7 years or older? Did you know this is
considered a senior? Often pets begin to develop
diseases common to their senior counterparts, such as diabetes, heart disease, endocrine disease and cancer. These diseases can go unnoticed in their early states; therefore preventative health is very important.
If you want to keep your older pet happy and healthy:
Work closely with us to evaluate your pet’s general health and monitor the physical effects aging has on the body and mind.
Schedule routine checkups.
Speak up for your pet. Tell us if you have observed changes in eating, behavior, skin and coat or mobility.
Ask us about nutrition and exercise.
Ask for annual screenings for life-threatening diseases like heartworm infections, feline leukemia, and Lyme disease.
Ask us about the latest pharmaceuticals that could impact the health of your pet.
Annual Vaccines
All dogs and cats are exposed to various infectious diseases; some are life threatening and others, like Rabies pose a public health risk. Each year your pet will need annual vaccinations, testing for parasites, heartworm testing and a complete physical.
How does a vaccination work?
When your pet receives a vaccine, its immune system produces special substances called antibodies that work against viruses or bacteria that cause disease. Later, if your pet is exposed to that same disease, these antibodies will help destroy the virus or bacteria. In many cases, vaccines against several diseases are combined, reducing the number of shots your pet receives at one time.
How often should my pet be vaccinated?
The number and frequency of vaccinations can be determined during a routine examination. We take several factors into consideration when making that decision, such as lifestyle, life stage and risk of exposure. Most pets require certain vaccinations twice each year.
Why do puppies and kittens require more shots than older ones?
Young animals are as vulnerable as they are adorable. And their immature immune systems can’t fight off disease as well as older ones. The protection they receive naturally through their mother’s milk can interfere with early vaccinations, making it difficult to pinpoint when vaccines stimulate immunity. This is why kittens and puppies need vaccinations several times during their first months of life. That way, if maternal antibodies interfere with early vaccinations, later doses will stimulate the animal to produce its own antibodies to disease
Dental Scaling,
Cleaning & Extractions

A minor dental infection can become a major health problem. More than 85% of dogs and cats over 4 years old have some form of periodontal disease.
Untreated dental problems can cause problems in cats and dogs.
Laser Surgery
Why laser surgery?
What is a laser surgery?
The way a particular laser works is determined by the specific wavelength of light that is used. For example, the most commonly used surgical laser is a CO2 laser which produces an invisible beam of light that vaporizes the water normally found in the skin and other soft tissue. Because your veterinarian can precisely control the laser, only a thin layer of tissue is removed, leaving the surrounding areas unaffected.
What does this mean for my pet?
Reduced risk of infection
Precision
Quick return to normal activities
Towne South Animal Hospital is one of the few in our area that provides
Laser Surgery.
A laser is ideal for a wide variety of surgical procedures for dogs, cats and other pets. This can range from routine procedures like spays, neuters, and declaws; to more advanced procedures like nares and soft palatte resections, mass removals, and amputations. Laser surgery can correct many common conditions such as cysts, tumors, warts and infections that may occur around the eyes, ears, in the mouth and anywhere on the skin. Specialized internal procedures are also possible.
Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory Services
Digital radiology is available onsite at Towne South Animal Hospital allowing us to have high quality images within seconds. This allows us to evaluate your pets internal structures, like muscle, bones, and organs of the chest and abdomen that will help give us further insight into what is troubling your pet.
Digital Ultrasound is also onsite at Towne South Animal Hospital. Ultrasound is an excellent, non-invasive tool that is very useful to study the heart and its vessels, as well as the liver, spleen, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, adrenal glands, urinary bladder, prostate gland, and other internal organs. It is a non-invasive option in cases where the next step would often be an exploratory surgery.
* Abdominal ultrasound can be extremely useful for detecting changes in the shape, size, tissue density, internal structure, and position of organs. The exam also can identify abdominal masses or tumors, abdominal fluid, bladder, kidney or bladder stones, and abnormal lymph nodes. Frequently abnormal tissue or fluid is sampled with a needle or biopsy instrument using the guidance of the ultrasound exam. Abdominal ultrasound can also be used to diagnose pregnancy.
* An ultrasound examination is especially helpful for diseases of the heart. It is called an echocardiogram or an "echo." The heart's wall thicknesses can be measured, and the size of its chambers can be determined. Motion can be detected so that an assessment can be made of the ability of the heart to move blood. The valves can be seen to determine if they are functioning properly.
Microchipping
Microchipping is Permanent Pet Identification
The ResQ Microchip Identification System is a safe, simple and permanent form of pet identification designed to quickly identify lost pets and reunite them with their owners.
Over 10 million pets become lost each year. One out of 3 pets is lost during its lifetime, and only one in 10 lost pets is found.
It is Safe, Simple, and Effective Technology?
No bigger than a grain of rice, the ResQ microchip is a small, sterile transponder that contains a unique ID code capable of being read by any ISO standard scanner. The microchip's biocompatible material is extremely safe for the animal. It requires no battery and remains inactive until it is scanned.
MedRx Video Otoscope
The latest high-tech diagnostic
and treatment tool. Helps your veterinarian
see what’s really happening with your pet . This tiny camera is connected to a tapered probe that your veterinarian may use to examine your pet. The camera is most often used to diagnose ear infections or blockages. It may also be used to pinpoint dental or throat conditions, or identify rectal or genital/urinary tract problems that might not otherwise be seen.
